Hanging in Sunderland AFC’s Stadium of Light (a U.K. football club) is the banner of the Monkwearmouth Lodge of the Durham Miner’s Association which depicts the moment in 1869 when the union forced the cancellation of the miners’ yearly bond. The motif of the banner quotes from the Book of Isaiah in the Bible:”Come now, and let us reason together, ……”This is just as relevant for us today. Research requires all involved (patients, public, health care professionals, reviewers and regulators) to work together, building shared decisions on sound reasoning, hence the invitation. Research, but more importantly in our own field, healthcare and health will be better if we work together, share reasons for our positions, try to develop consensus and build trust. Reasons should be our currency.
