I had an excellent opportunity to attend the GHBN 2024 summer school in Kuala Lumpur from August 19 to 22. The workshop presentations, discussions, and debates made me realize how wise and articulate the participants were. I came across some fascinating research ideas I wish to explore in India, such as the ‘ perception of time’ in communities. Discussions, especially during breaks and dinnertime, on co-designing and ways of community engagement in clinical research were equally intriguing for me. Since the focus of the Summer school was global health ethics, enlightening discussions surrounding ethical challenges in the use of AI, climate change research, and knowledge production of ethics in the global south were particularly thought-provoking for me. The workshop was not about enforcing a particular idea of right and wrong. The atmosphere and activities were designed to let us decide what we consider ethical practice in researching the given context and share our thoughts with others. This concentrated time of reflection and networking was helpful to refine my thoughts and get new ideas for further research. Beyond the academic exchange, this short period allowed us to immerse ourselves in the cultural context of Malaysia, creating unforgettable impressions, pleasant memories and questions to mull over.

Attending the Summer School in Kuala Lumpur was a transformative experience, particularly as it was the first time Mozambique, an African Portuguese-speaking country, hosted such an event. The diversity of perspectives, both in culture and academic thought, enriched the learning environment. The opportunity to represent my country and engage with other professionals in public health and technology was deeply rewarding.
The session I found most compelling was on "Emerging Technologies and AI." It highlighted the profound ethical considerations that come with rapid technological advancements, making me rethink how ethics needs to evolve alongside these innovations. Beyond the presentations, the Summer School was an excellent networking opportunity.
The Summer School also facilitated valuable connections with professionals from around the world. Sharing ideas with peers from diverse backgrounds broadened my perspective on global health challenges and solutions. It reinforced the importance of international collaboration.
I left with a deeper appreciation for the ethical considerations that must guide technological advancements, ensuring that innovations are used responsibly and equitably to benefit all communities.
