Attending the Global Health Bioethics Network Summer School 2025 was an incredibly motivating experience. I had the privilege of interacting with a diverse community of researchers, ethicists, and scholars from around the world, all committed to promoting ethical practices in global health research. From learning basic concepts such as the distinction between empirical and normative bioethics to debating and reflecting on pressing ethical questions related to artificial intelligence, climate change, and the future of bioethics in the face geopolitical and funding landscapes. What stood most was the rich diverse perspectives, based on personal experiences and shaped by cultural nuances. Some of the impactful interactions took place beyond the formal sessions - during coffee breaks and evening dinners - and the experience was culminated by a bioethics “pilgrimage” through the historic Castle of Good Hope. To me, this was a living classroom that embodied conquest, resistance, determination and survival, reminding us of past injustices and the importance of caring for our shared humanity.I am grateful to GHBN for making this experience possible. I carry with me lasting lessons and renewed inspiration from the call to make ourselves relevant, for the future is ours to develop.
