Joana Porcel
About: Joana Porcel-Carbonell, PhD in Neuropsychology, University of Barcelona; Clinical Psychologist. I have worked as a clinical neuropsychologist at the Traumatic Brain Injured Association providing support and counseling to families and brain injured patients (1996-2002), and at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital of Barcelona, as a psychologist and researcher at the Multiple Sclerosis Unit (1996-2006). From 2006 onwards, I work on research management. From 2006 to 2009 at the private sector related with pharma research, mainly clinical trials. Main responsibilities: projects management and monitoring, scientific writing, contract negotiation. In 2009, I moved to the public sector at the Center for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL), which was integrated with the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal; https://www.isglobal.org/en/) in June 2016. At ISGlobal, I am the coordinator of the Projects Unit, which includes a dedicated Office for Coordination and Research Management and the Grants Office. My main responsibilities include: Strategic planning of the center and policy development; Scientific agenda management; Ethical issues - Good Scientific Practice and Personal data protection. Currently, I provide support to researchers on ethics matters, reviewing the documentation submitted to the ethics committee, and being the point of contact between the researchers and the committee. I am a representative member at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) Good Scientific Practices Working Group, and responsible of keeping researchers up to date best practices in research ethics and good scientific practices. Also member of the EARMA Research Ethics and Integrity Officers Network (ERION). Specifically on personal data protection, I am coordinating a dedicated working group at the institution since November 2017 for the adaptation to the new GDPR requirements.
