Retha Visagie
About: Dr Retha Visagie is the Manager: Research Integrity in the Research Support Directorate of UNISA, South Africa. With a DCur qualification and recognition as a UNESCO-trained ethics educator, Retha is well-equipped to do research in the interrelated fields of research ethics and integrity in Social and Health Sciences. She recently completed a co-authored project on 'Informed Consent in Africa – Integrating Individual and Collective Autonomy'. She has a keen interest in Positive Psychology and Appreciative Inquiry as seen in previous research. Current research interests revolve around the strategic engagement of Research Ethics Committees (REC). She played a leading role in the establishment of the Research Ethics Committee Association of Southern Africa (REASA) and is a non-executive director and chairperson of the Board of the not-for-profit company, EthiXPERT. In 2018. SARIMA recognised her contributions in the field through the DST/SARIMA Award for Professional Excellence in Research Management.
